Here are 5 tanka poems that I wrote. I am taking a class on Tanka poetry (a form of Japanese poetry that’s similar to Haiku) and this is my first attempt at writing it. I will also post some good professional tanka so you can actually see what its supposed to be haha
1.
a blank page.
the words of love
are trapped
inside the hard shell
around my heart
2.
Who cares if I wear
jeans when the trend is dresses?
What if I tried to
make you see that it’s ok
stand on the outside for once?
3.
the flame of a candle
burning alone at night
a symbol of hope
Wind rushes past
leaving only a trace of smoke
4.
I collect squished pennies
Not only as reminders
of places I’ve seen
but for the beauty of
the deformed coin
5.
you are more than a friend,
you stand by me
when the world walks out.
and for that,
I owe you my life.
